About

The Resilience is a blog created by myself, Alan Esses, which aims to raise awareness for obsessive compulsive disorder and other mental health conditions, through my personal experience. My goal is to promote public discussion of mental health issues, and contribute to ending mental health stigma.

I’ve had obsessive compulsive disorder, and obsessive compulsive personality disorder, for years, although I didn’t acknowledge it for a long time. I had to overcome my own stigma that existed before I was able to truly help myself. My obsessions included contamination, scrupulosity, and obsessive thoughts, among others.

Like many people with ocd, I am not completely rid of the disorder. It’s a work in progress, with the key word being progress. I’ve thankfully made large strides, despite still struggling from time to time. This disorder does not simply disappear, rather it’s present for life. Learning how to overcome and manage the anxiety it creates is paramount to living a happy and healthy life. With hard work and tremendous resilience, it can be done!

Best wishes,

Alan Esses
